combatmedic - March 20, 2010 04:10 PM (GMT)
So I had this kid come over today and he spun the crank on my 6 bolt and he said he thinks it spins to freely, he said there should be alot of resistance can anyone help me out with this.

You won't know untill you either pressurise the cylinders by doing a leak down test or doing a compression test.

well I pulled the head today and the pistons look fine, I am worried about the valves though are they supposed to all be flush because some of them are a little raised?? Oh yeah and for some reason there was two head gaskets on the engine????

Did you pull the cams? IF the cams are still in it than a few will still be open. Hopefully you removed the bolts in the correct order which might warp the head if you don't. Have the head checked for straightness while it is off, there is a chance that it could be warped and they used 2 gaskets to get it sealed. 2 gaskets will also decrease compression. You might want ot verity that it is actually a turbo engine and that they didn't just try and lower the compression on a non turbo engine. Take a picture of the top of the piston and post it, i will tell you what it is. Also you won't be able to tell if the ring lands are bad just by looking at the top of the piston. You will have to pour some gas, alachol, kerosine of something like that down in the cylinders and make sure it doesn't leak out fast. You will only need an inch of liquid in each cylinder. Who is going to be setting your timing belt up, and setting the tension?

So are you saying to remove the oil pan and pour gas or something in the cylinder and see how fast it drains out? I will go take some pictures right now but the block has a stamp on it that says 4g63. I am going to do the timing and all that, I already modified the motor mount to make it fit.

so I did some research and found out that 63D T pistons are turbo, how do I check to see if the head is warped because its weird that they used two gaskets and yes I removed the bolts in the correct sequence.

You don't have to remove the oil pan, just pour it on top of the pistons. That is definetly a turbo engine. They might of decked the head or block quite a bit also. You will need to take it to a machine shop to check it to see if it is warped.

what do you mean decked the head or block?
bryanwheat - March 23, 2010 01:09 AM (GMT)
that means that the surface could of been cut down in order to achieve a better surface. The block looks like it has been cut down. In most cases a it won't matter that much.

thanks man hopefully I can get my car running this week and I can go to the next meet so I can thank you for all your help in person.
