Hey blue ice i have a quetion...what is the motor code for the 7g Galant? What does it come with it?
mr. o - March 1, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
-Magnus block
-Groden aluminum rods
-Magnus 9.0:1 pistons
-FFWD conn. Butcher crank
-FFWD conn. Stage 4.5 head
-Comp Pro Race cams
-Fidanza cam gears
And thats all the "main" stuff for the motor.
I still have no trans or turbo.
I'm building a Galant drag car. :drive:
I plan to have it finished to go to the DSM Shootout in aug. 08

Well it's 4g64 but the 94 GS had a DOHC 4g64, all else are SOHC 4g64...
unless you're talking about the world spec 7gVR4's wich have a 6a12TT motor code. ;) Which is a 6cyl twin turbo.
The 64's are basically the same block as the 4g63's but instead of being 2.0L they are 2.4L For a Frankenstien build up one would take the 64 block and put a 63 DOHC head. The turbo maifold from a 63 will bolt up perfectly to a 64. But it is not suggested to run much boost on stock 64 internals, they aren't built for boost.
the 7g 64's have a 7 bolt crank, but i have heard of early 90's Hyunda's having a 64 with a 6 bolt crank. Which would make the Frankenstien even more monsterous.
But a 4g63 will bolt into the 7g just nicely. there are some out there who are pioneering the AWD conversion. The suspension for the 7g and 2g Eclipse are identical.
Hope you don't mind that i elaborated :P

Thanks for the information! Very detailed...i assume there are some differences from the 64 that is in the 7g then the one thats in the 8g/3g eclipse? Becouse the one from the 8g Galant and 3g Eclipse can be boosted to some pretty nice power even being SOHC. I'm not quite sure just how much boost on stock internals though.

I always thought the motor they out in the 7th gen GVR4 was worthless. It was probably by far one of the smoothest twin turbo V6's on the road, but the damn thing was only a 2.0 liter. 6A12TT = No Good. As for the 8th gen they stepped it up a bit with a 2.5 V6. making the 6A13TT slightly better than the previous 6A.
yep, that early 90's Hyundai motor is the G4CS, Super cheap.
On the note of 4G63's & Hyundai's the 4G63T drops perfectly into the 92-95 Elantras. I was gonna do this but i didn't, it would make for an awesome sleeper.
The motor that comes in those year cars is the 4G61, an under bored 4G63.

The 4g63 also drops into the older Sonatas correct? Ive seen a few of those swaps done. My mom has a 02' elantra with the XD20 motor i doubt a 4g63 would drop into that very well lol.

It wasn't a straight forward swap, those had the G4CS 2.4 liter. The motor mounts were in different locations.
Those swaps performed on early sonata's were identical to that of the late 80's to early 90's non turbo Colt's and Mirage's.
90GGSX - March 6, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
but why not just put a turbo head on the sonata's built lower end.
then you've got some more displacement.
